The Irish Government has approved a new policy to provide financial support in the construction of student accommodations. This will be the first instance where the state contributes to the cost of this type of construction and is part of a long-term strategic response. The project will focus on areas that have already been granted planning permission and are in need of more funding.
The 667 beds across the University of Limerick, Maynooth University and the University of Galway will be provided during the first phase. Additional investments that will be made to build student accommodation at technological universities were also approved, in order to promote balanced regional development. The government has set in place affordability commitments for rent and this policy promises to provide greater access and assistance for students who need it most.

The New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) has announced that online versions of approved English language proficiency tests will no longer be accepted as evidence of English language skills. This decision took effect at the start of 2021 and reflects NZQA decision not to list online tests permanently on its Table of Internationally Recognised English Proficiency Outcomes for International Students.
Learners accepted onto a program prior to the 31st of December, 2022 with an online test will be able to use that result for full enrolment in 2023 provided it remains within the two-year validity period. Approved tests include IELTS, Cambridge Assessment English qualifications, the Occupational English Test (OET), the New Zealand Certificate in English Language (NZCEL), Pearson PTE Academic, LanguageCert, and Trinity College London ISE.

Canada - Introduce Pearson Test of English Essential as proof of language skills for immigration application in 2023
Pearson, the world-leading language testing provider, has announced that from late 2023 onwards, Canadian applicants for permanent residency or citizenship will be required to take the Pearson Test of English Essential (PTE Essential) as part of their application. This exam is specifically tailored to meet Canada's immigration requirements and to assess applicants' real-life English proficiency.
According to Andy Bird, CEO of Pearson, PTE Academic has already proven to be a successful tool for individuals looking to use English in their respective countries. As Canada plans to accept 500,000 new permanent residents by 2025, Pearson's test will offer a high-quality, quick experience and AI and voice recognition technology.
