Tamwood, a well-established education institution, is being acquired by ILAC, the largest private education group in the country. The CEO of Tamwood, Tamsin Plaxton, made this announcement on LinkedIn, confirming speculations that had been circulating for several months.
Plaxton emphasized the importance of finding the ideal buyer for Tamwood, a company she founded back in 1992. She expressed the need for a buyer who not only shares her unwavering vision for Tamwood but is also committed to preserving its innovative approach, high-quality programs, and exceptional customer service.
ILAC, led by its main shareholder, ONCAP, emerged as the perfect fit for this vision. Plaxton also revealed her plans to become an investor in ILAC as part of the sale.
Tamwood, with a 30-year history, operates on a distinctive work-and-study model. It has campuses in Toronto and Vancouver, offering programs in marketing, technology, and business. Additionally, Tamwood provides English programs and junior camps in Montreal and select US cities.
As of September 4, ILAC has not released official details regarding the sale, such as the purchase price or plans for staffing and facilities.
Closure of the Pandemic Event visa
The Albanese Labor Government has announced the closure of the Pandemic Event visa. Starting February 2024, no new applications will be accepted, as the circumstances that led to its creation have changed. From September 2, 2023, only current holders can apply. Other visa holders will be ineligible as a transitional measure to improve the system.
Current Pandemic Event visa holders remain lawful until their visa expires. Recent measures reduce migration, aiding a return to pre-pandemic population growth. New applications from September 2, 2023, will grant a six-month visa with a $405 AUD fee, ensuring genuine contributions to Australia.
Pandemic Event visa holders seeking a different visa must meet its criteria. Those with no other options are expected to depart when their visa expires. Minister Giles emphasized the visa's importance during the pandemic and the government's commitment to fixing the migration system after years of mismanagement.
