Wilfrid Laurier University - Edvisor Meet&Greet

Keyano College and Wilfrid Laurier are offering application fee waivers exclusively for Edvisor agencies. This is exciting news for Edvisor agencies to share with their students who are considering higher education in Canada for Fall 2023 start dates.

Not only will Edvisor agencies receive 100% commission on successful enrolments for these higher education partners in Canada, but their students will also have the opportunity to waive their application fees for September 2023 applications. However, it is important to note that each university holds the right to accept or deny application fee waivers.

To apply for the waiver, applicants will need to submit a waiver application along with a passport copy, original and translated post-secondary studies, an English proficiency test, and a letter of intent. Edvisor's team will be available to support this process.

This is a fantastic opportunity for Edvisor agencies to offer their students financial relief and help them take the first step towards their dream education in Canada. The covid-19 pandemic impacts US visa fees for certain non-immigrant categories

The US Department of State has confirmed an increase in visa processing fees for certain non-immigrant visa categories, including F and M student visas and J exchange visas. The final costs, effective from May 30th, 2023, are less than the original proposal.

The Department of State initially proposed a 50% increase in processing fees, from $160 to $245, but in response to public comments, the fees have been increased by 15.6% to $185, which is $60 lower than the proposed increase.

The Department of State said that the Covid-19 pandemic had altered projections and helped to stabilize fees at an amount sufficient to recover costs with only a modest increase to the consumer. The Department of State is also postponing the proposed fee increase for the exchange visitor waiver of residency requirement (J-Waiver), which was originally planned to increase from $120 to $510.

The Final Rule published by the Department of State is available by clicking here, which outlines that the new fees are scheduled to take effect at the end of May.

Canada extends post-graduation work permits for former international students by 18 months

The Canadian government has extended post-graduation work permits (PGWP) for former international students whose permits have expired or are expiring for another 18 months. The extension will commence on April 6th, 2023, and those who opt to extend their work permits will be able to do so.

The move aims to support employers facing difficulties in hiring and retaining employees. Even those with expired permits can restore their status and receive interim work authorization while awaiting the processing of the new work permit application. This extension also aims to provide international graduates with valuable work experience and the potential to become permanent residents.

According to the IRCC, more than 286,000 international graduates were in Canada with a valid PGWP, and almost 95,000 former international students transitioned to permanent residency last year.
